Book of Shadows

Hi everyone.  This is my Book of Shadows.  I had a really great time creating it and I wanted to share it you.    Before I tell you how I made it, let me tell you what my little 8 year old niece Cara said.  I showed her my book and she said.....oh oh oh....you should...you should.....you should sell these in stores.  She is one of my biggest fans.  

Now, let me tell you how I made this book.  I started with this adorable image from Rick St. Dennis.  Her name is Hannah Halloween.  I colored her with Copics and then covered her with Glossy Accents.  After she was dry, I cut her out.  I used the Glossy Accents to make her stronger because I knew I would be popping her up and she needed extra strength to be on the front of the book.   

The next step was to find the book.  I came across this one at Pat Catan's and it was very inexpensive.  I covered the book with a layer of gesso, then a few sponged layers of paint to get a base coat down.

Next I added some modeling paste with a pallet knife.  I did not cover the entire book, I just wanted to make it look old.  I then painted the paste.  For the next layer, I used the same paste but added some micro beads to it.  I rubbed it on with my fingers.  Then painted it.  This is the back of the book.

I took some designer papers and distressed the edges with my Tim Holtz distressing tool.  I used some distress inks to age the papers.  I applied them to the book with Matte Mod Podge.  Then I added a layer of Mod Podge on top to seal the paper.  I added the image using SU dimesionals.

Next came the embellishments.  I used Tim Holts metal photo corners on the front and back.  I also added a key hole.  I used some metal paints to add a petina to the metal.  I attached the key hole with Glossy Accents.  That will hold just about anything in place.

I printed this out and distressed it.  Then added it with Mod Podge.

I forgot to say that I used a some sticky strip and embossing powder down the side of the book.  When you heat it, the tape bubbles and looks old.
